Free Crochet Pattern: Scrubby Heart

Size: 6" x 6"

 

Supplies: 

Size G (4.0mm) Crochet Hook 

Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle Yarn, Approx. 50 yards 

Darning Needle 

Scissors 

Stitch Marker

 

Abbreviations: 

Ch - Chain 

Hdc - Half Double Crochet 

Hdc2tog - Half Double Crochet 2 Together 

Sc - Single Crochet 

Sc2tog - Single Crochet 2 Together 

Ss - Slip Stitch 

 

Important Note:

-Chains do not count as a stitch.

Pattern: 

 

Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 2, turn. (1) 

Row 2: 3 hdc in same stitch. Ch 2, turn. (3) 

Row 3: 2 hdc in first, hdc in 1, 2 hdc in last. Ch 2, turn. (5) 

Row 4: 2 hdc, hdc in 3, 2 hdc. Ch 2, turn. (7) 

Row 5: 2 hdc, hdc in 5, 2 hdc. Ch 2, turn. (9) 

Row 6: 2 hdc, hdc in 7, 2 hdc. Ch 2, turn. (11) 

Row 7: 2 hdc, hdc in 9, 2 hdc. Ch 2, turn. (13)

After you have turned your piece over count from right to the left and place a stitch marker in the 16th stitch. You should have 13 stitches to the left of the marker and 15 to the right. Leave stitch marker in place, you will be coming back to this stitch later.

Row 16: Hdc in 12, hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn. (13)

Row 17: Hdc in each across. Ch 2, turn. (13)

Row 18: Hdc2tog, hdc in 9, hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn. (11)

Row 19: Hdc in 9, hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn. (10)

Row 20: Hdc2tog, hdc in 6, hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn. (8)

Row 21: Hdc in 6, hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn. (7)

Turn piece. 

Join yarn with a ss to the stitch you placed a stitch marker in. Remove stitch marker.

You will have 1 stitch un-worked to the right of where the stitch marker was.

Row 24: Ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc in 12. Ch 2, turn. (13)

Row 25: Hdc in each across. Ch 2, turn. (13)

Row 26: Hdc2tog, hdc in 9, hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn. (11)

Row 27: Hdc2tog, hdc in 9. Ch 2, turn. (10)

Row 28: Hdc2tog, hdc in 6, hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn. (8)

Row 29: Hdc2tog, hdc in 6. Ch 2, turn. (7)

Row 30: Hdc2tog, hdc in 3, hdc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (5)

Row 31: Sc2tog, sc in 1, sc2tog. (3)

Do not fasten off just yet. 

Ch 1 and sc around the entire edge. At the top of the heart where you have 3 stitches work 2 sc in the first, 1 sc in the next, 2 sc in the last. At the bottom tip of the heart work 2 or 3 sc.

After you make your way around the entire heart ss to join. 

Fasten off & sew in ends.

Free Crochet Pattern: Scrubby Washcloth Set

Hello! Today I am sharing 3 simple crochet washcloth patterns that work up fairly quick, I was able to completed a full set in 3 hours. I'm really loving this Scrubby Yarn by Red Heart and I've tested the rags myself in the kitchen and they work great! Listed below in the supplies is the yardage needed to complete the entire set. Difficulty: Easy

Size: 7" x 7"

Supplies:
Red Heart Scrubby Yarn, 1 ball, 92 yards
Lily Peaches n Cream Yarn, 1 ball, 95 yards
Size I (5.5mm) hook
Scissors
Tapestry needle

Abbreviations (US terms):
Ch - Chain
FLO - Front Loop Only
Hdc - Half Double Crochet
Sc - Single Crochet
Sl St  -Slip Stitch

Notes:
-The first stitch of every row is to be worked in the same space as the ch 1.

Gauge: With cotton yarn & I hook: 4 hdc = 1"

Super Scrubby

Using Scrubby Yarn:
Row 1: Ch 27, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. Ch 1, turn. (26 hdc)
Row 2-19: Hdc in each. Ch 1, turn. (26 hdc)
Row 20: Hdc in each. (26 hdc)
Fasten off & sew in ends.

1/3 Scrubby

 

Using Cotton Yarn:
Row 1: Ch 26, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. Ch 1, turn. (25 hdc)
Row 2-5: In FLO: Hdc in each. Ch 1, turn. (25 hdc)
Fasten off.

Join Scrubby Yarn:
Row 6-11: Hdc in each. Ch 1, turn. (25 hdc)
Fasten off.

Join Cotton Yarn:
Row 12: Hdc in each. Ch 1, turn. (25 hdc)
Row 13-16: In FLO: Hdc in each. Ch 1, turn. (25 hdc)

Free Crochet Pattern: Easiest Washcloths Ever

Below are a few simple rag patterns that I use when I need to whip up a quick rag.
If you are looking for a less basic rag you may like my Round Ruffly Rag or the Very Ribbed Rag.

Finished Size: 6" x 6"

Supplies:
Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn, approx. 50 yds. per washcloth
Size I (5.5 mm) Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms):
BLO - Back Loop Only
Ch - Chain
Dc - Double Crochet
Hdc - Half Double Crochet
Sc - Single Crochet
Sl St - Slip Stitch
Sp - Space

Optional Edge Addition:
Adding the following edge to your washcloth will change the size to about 6.5" x 6.5".

Each of the patterns below do not have an edge as the edges come out pretty clean with sc & hdc stitches but if you would like to add a border anyways I suggest the following:

After completing your final row of the pattern you are using, ch 1 & rotate the washcloth to the right so you can work along the side. Sc along the edge until you reach the next corner, ch 2, rotate the washcloth again to work along the next edge. Continue to do this for each edge, join with a sl st, fasten off and sew in ends.


Basic Sc Rag

Gauge: 7 sc x 8 rows = 2"

Row 1: Ch 22, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. (21 sc)
Row 2-24: Ch 1, turn, sc in each across. (21 sc)
Fasten off and sew in ends.


Ribbed Sc Rag

Gauge: 7 sc x 6.5 rows = 2"

Row 1: Ch 22, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. (21 sc)
Row 2-19: In BLO: Ch 1, turn, sc in each across. (21 sc)
Fasten off and sew in ends.


Basic Hdc Rag

Gauge: 7 hdc x 5.5 rows = 2"

Row 1: Ch 21, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. (20 hdc)

-Ch 2's count as one stitch.

Row 1: Ch 25, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each across. (24)

Note: For the next row, DO NOT work your first stitch in the same space as the ch 2.

Row 2: Ch 2, turn. *Fpdc around next, Bpdc around next.* Repeat *to* across until you have one sp left. Dc in last. (24)

After you have finished row 13: Ch 1 and proceed to sc around the edge of the entire rag, ch 2 at each corner. Join with a sl st.

You should have about 22-24 sc per side on each edge.

Free Crochet Pattern: Round Ruffly Rag

This easy & slightly girly wash/dish rag works up very quickly and makes a fun little addition to soap & lotion gift baskets. I always try and squeeze a little something crochet into my gift giving!

-A group of stitches listed between these brackets [ ] are to all be worked in the same space.

Round 1: Magic circle, ch 1, 8 hdc in circle. Pull circle tight, do not join. (8 hdc)

Place a stitch marker in the last hdc made.

Now, instead of joining with a sl st you will begin working in the round by working the first stitches directly into the first hdc of row 1.

Round 2: In BLO: [Sc, hdc] in first, 2 hdc in next and in each around. (1 sc, 15 hdc)

Move the stitch marker to the last hdc made and continue to do this at the end of each round as you go to help you keep your place.

Free Crochet Pattern: Chicken Dish Rag or Pot Holder

This cute chicken can be made as a dish rag or a pot holder. The pattern is written for the dish rag option but here’s what I do to use it as a pot holder: First I crochet two complete chicken body/heads then I sew them together around the edges. After they are sewn together move on to the wattle, feathers, comb and beak working your stitches through all four loops of both bodies.

The side currently facing you is the RS (right side), all the remaining details should be added when RS is facing you.

At this point if you have decided you would like your pot holder to be double thick and you have made 2 bodies, sew them together just below the loops. You will still need to work along the edges of the body to add the remaining details. When you move on make sure you are working through the loops on both bodies.

Wattle

With Size H Hook & Red Yarn:

Join with a sl st in the same space as you just fastened off for the body/head.

Row 1: Ch 1, 2 hdc in next, hdc in next. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Hdc in same, sl st in 2. Fasten off, knot these two ends together then sew them in.

Feathers

With Size H Hook

Note: If you do not want a loop for hanging, fasten off before ch 10 at the very end of row.

Skip 3 spaces from where you fastened off for the wattle and join with a sl st in the next space (leave 3 spaces unworked).The feathers will be worked over the next 71 spaces. Double check count before starting, if you missed a stitch somewhere and only have 70 (for example) you may need to skip only 2 spaces. It’s always good to double check before starting.

Ch 1, *sk 1, 5 dc in next, sk 2, sc in next* repeat *to* 12 more times for (13 feathers made). Sk 1, 5 dc in next, sk 2, sl st in last, ch 10 and sl st in same space. 
Fasten off and sew in ends.

Comb

With Size H Hook & Red Yarn

Join with a sl st on top of the head in the space all the way to the right.

*Ch 2, dc in same, in next space: [dc, ch 2, sl st into same], sl st in next.* Repeat *to* 3 more times (4 made). Fasten off and sew in ends.

Beak

With Size H Hook

With yellow join with a sl st in the 5^th stitch from where you just fastened off with red for the comb. [Ch 2, dc], fasten off and sew in ends.

Optional Eye

With tapestry needle, stitch on a little eye above the beak. I usually leave this off of the pot holders I make that are only one layer because I don’t like that the end can’t be hidden easily. Maybe a small wooden button would work well, a plastic button may melt if a very hot pan is placed on the pot holder.
