Free Crochet Pattern: Cupcake Applique


Recently I needed a little something to jazz up a birthday card so I crocheted up this cupcake applique. This is pretty easy pattern and the fun Bernat Dippity Dots yarn is so perfect for this project!

Skill Level: Easy

Finished Size: Approx. 3" x 2.5"

Supplies:
Size H (5.0 mm) Crochet Hook
Worsted Weight Yarn for cupcake & cherry
Bernat Dippity Dots Yarn for frosting (or worsted weight yarn of choice)
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms):
BLO - Back Loops Only
Ch - Chain
FLO - Front Loops Only
Hdc - Half Double Crochet
Hdc2tog - Half Double Crochet 2 Together
Sl st - Slip Stitch
Sp - Space

Note:
-Joins are made with sl st.

With Frosting Color:
Row 1: Ch 4, 2 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next, 2 hdc in last. Ch 1, turn. (5 hdc)
Row 2: 2 hdc in same, hdc in 3, 2 hdc in last. Ch 1, turn. (7 hdc)
Row 3: 2 hdc in same, hdc in 5, 2 hdc in last. Ch 1, turn. (9 hdc)
Row 4: In FLO: [Hdc, dc, hdc] all in the same sp. *Sl st in next, [hdc, dc, hdc] in next* Repeat *to* to end.
Fasten off leaving long end for sewing.

The next row will be worked in the un-worked back loops.

Join with Cupcake Color:
Row 5: In BLO: Ch 1, hdc in same and in each across. Ch 1, turn. (9 hdc)
Row 6: Hdc in same and in each across. Ch 1, turn. (9 hdc)
Row 7: Hdc2tog, hdc in 5, hdc2tog. Ch 1, turn.
Row 8: Sc2tog, sc in 3, sc2tog.
Fasten off leaving long end for sewing.

Join with Cherry Color in top, center space of cupcake.
[Sc, hdc, hdc, sl st] all in the same sp.
Fasten off and sew in ends.

Free Crochet Pattern: Bologna Sandwich Play Set


Earlier this week I sat down and crocheted up this fun pretend sandwich as a surprise for a little girl that I know, it turned out so cute I made a 2nd set and wrote out all the patterns so I could share here! I tried a couple different yarns and listed them below in the supplies for you. Enjoy & if you have any questions at all feel free to ask.

Skill Level: Easy

Supplies:
Size H (5.0 mm) Crochet Hook
Worsted Weight Yarn
           Example shows:
                    -Tan: Caron One Pound, Lace
                    -Dark brown: Red Heart With Love, Chocolate
                    -Dark Green: Caron One Pound, Kelly Green
                    -Light Green: Red Heart Super Saver, Spring Green
                    -Red: Red Heart With Love, Berry Red
                    -Pink: Lion's Brand Vanna's Choice, Dusty Pink
                    -White: Caron One Pound, White
                    -Yellow: Caron One Pound, Sunflower
Tapestry needle
Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms):
Ch - Chain
Dc - Double Crochet
Hdc - Half Double Crochet
Sc - Single Crochet
Sk - Skip
Sl st - Slip Stitch
Sp - Space

Bread 
(make 2 or 4 for thicker slices)

-Stitches listed inside of brackets [  ]  indicated a group of stitches worked into the same space.
-If you would like a thicker slices of bread hold two finished slices together with WS facing each other and sl st along the edges or sew them together. You will need to make 4 slices total if you use this option.

With Tan:
Row 1: Ch 18, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. (17 hdc)
Row 2-12: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in same and in each across. (17 hdc)
Row 13: Turn. Sl st in first, sc, hdc, dc, [dc, tr], [tr, dc], hdc, sc, sl st, sc, hdc, [dc, tr], [tr, dc], dc, hdc, sc, sl st.

The side facing you is the RS.

Now you will need to rotate the piece to the right so you can work along the edge, ch 1, sc along edge, *ch 2 and sc along edge* Repeat from *to* one more time. Join with sl st to ch 1 from beginning of row 14.

Join dark brown in any space and sc along the entire edge of bread, work 2 sc in each tr from row 14 and ch 1 at each corner.

Lettuce
Approx. finished size: 4" across


Note:
-Ch 2 does not count as dc in final stitch count.

With Green:
Row 1: Magic Circle (or ch 3, join), ch 2, 12 dc in circle. Join to first dc with sl st. (12 dc)
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in same and in each around. Join to first dc with sl st. (24 dc)
Row 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in same and in each around. Join to first dc with sl st. (48 dc)
Row 4: Ch 2, 4 dc in same, 3 dc in next, 2 dc in next. *4 dc in next, 3 dc in next, 2 dc in next.* Repeat *to* around. Join to first dc with sl st. (144 dc)
Fasten off, pull circle tight and sew in ends.

Tomato
Approx. finished size: 3 1/2" across

Notes:

-Ch 1 & Ch 2 does not count as a stitch in final stitch count unless otherwise stated with the pattern.

With Red:
Row 1: Magic Circle (or ch 3, join), ch 2, 12 dc in circle. Join to first dc with sl st. (12 dc)
Row 2: Ch 5 (counts as tr & ch 2), tr in same. [tr, ch 2, tr] in next and in each sp around. Sl st to 4th ch from beginning chain to join. (12 V stitches)
Row 3: Ch 1, Hdc in same. Hdc in each sp around, working 2 hdc over each ch 2 sp. (48 hdc)

Optional: After joining sl st around entire edge.

Fasten off, pull circle tight and sew in ends.


Pickle
Approx. finished size: 1 1/2" across


Note:
-Ch 1 does not count as hdc in final stitch count.

With Dark Green:
Row 1: Magic Circle (or ch 3, join), ch 1, 9 hdc in circle. Join to first hdc with sl st. (9 hdc)
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in same and in each around. Join to first hdc with sl st. (18 hdc)
Fasten off and sew in ends.


Bologna Slice
Approx. finished size: 4 1/2" across

Note:
-Ch 1 does not count as a stitch in final stitch count.

With Light Pink:
Row 1: Magic Circle (or ch 3, join), ch 1, 8 hdc. Join with sl st to first hdc. (8 hdc)
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in same and in each around. Join with sl st to first hdc. (16 hdc)
Row 3: Ch 1, 2 hdc in same, hdc in next. *2 hdc in next, hdc in next.* Repeat *to * around. Join with sl st to first hdc. (24 hdc)
Row 4: Ch 1, 2 hdc in same, hdc in next 2. *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 2.* Repeat *to * around. Join with sl st to first hdc.(32 hdc)
Row 5: Ch 1, 2 hdc in same, hdc in next 3. *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 3.* Repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to first hdc. (40 hdc)

Onion


With White:
Magic circle, ch 1, sc in circle 30+ times. You can make your onion as big or as small as you wish. Join with sl st to beginning sc then sl st all the way around. Fasten off and sew in ends.


Cheese
Approx. finished size: 4" x 3 1/2"


Notes:
-Ch 1 does not count as hdc in final stitch count.

With Yellow:
Row 1: Ch 15, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. (14 hdc)
Row 2-10: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in same and in each across. (14 hdc)

Ch 2, rotate piece to the right so you can sc along the entire edge. *Ch 2 at corner, rotate piece again and sc across edge.* Repeat from *to* one more time. Fasten off and sew in ends.

Free Crochet Pattern: Simple Picot Corner to Corner Blanket Edge

I have made quiet a few corner to corner blankets and have used a variety of edges for them, I usually just do whatever I please without writing it down but thought maybe I'll start sharing here because I often get asked how I created my edge.

For my corner to corner blanket shown I used a size I Hook and this free pattern: Red Heart Corner to Corner Throw.

Supplies:
Worsted Weight Yarn
Size I (5.5mm) Crochet Hook
Size G (4.0mm) Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms):
Ch - Chain
Hdc - Half Double Crochet
Sc - Single Crochet
Sk - Skip
Sl St - Slip Stitch
Sp - Space

Notes:
-Stitches places between these brackets [ ] indicate a group of stitches to all be worked into the same space.
-Picot = Ch 2, sl st to top of hdc.

After you have completed your Corner to Corner Blanket:

With Hook size I:
Row 1: Join with sl st at any corner, *Ch 5, sk 2 blocks, sl st between blocks* Repeat *to* around edge, ch 1 at each corner.

Switch to Hook size G:

Important: In the next row ch 2 at each corner.

Row 2: Sl st into first ch 5 sp, ch 1, [sc, 3 hdc, picot, 2 hdc, sc]. *Sc into next ch 5 sp and work the following in the same space: [3 hdc, picot, 2 hdc, sc].* Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off and sew in ends.
