Free Crochet Pattern: Men's Basic Beanie with Options

(Shown in Deborah Norville Everyday Soft Oak Moss & I Love This Yarn Orange Neon)

This is a great basic beanie pattern for men using hdc's. At the end of the pattern you can choose to add additional rows if you want a hat with a folded edge or if you would like a slouchy hat!

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Men's, 22-23" head circumference

Supplies:
Size H (5.0 mm) Crochet Hook
Medium weight yarn, 175-250 yards (depending on which style you choose to make)
Darning Needle
Scissors

Stitch Abbreviations (US Terms):
Ch - Chain
Hdc - Half Double Crochet
Sc - Single Crochet
Ss - Slip Stitch
St - Stitch

Important Notes:
-Joins are made with ss.
-Ch 1 does NOT count as a stitch.

Gauge: 4 hdc & 3 rows = 1”

Row 1: Magic circle, ch 1, 11 hdc in circle. Join to first hdc. Pull circle tight. (11 hdc)
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around. Join. (22 hdc)
Row 3: Ch 1, *2 hdc, hdc in next st.* Repeat *to* around. Join. (33 hdc)

Your circle should measure approx. 2 ½” across the center.

Row 4: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join. (33 hdc)
Row 5: Ch 1, *2 hdc, hdc in next 2 st* Repeat *to* around. Join. (44 hdc)
Row 6: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join. (44 hdc)
Row 7: Ch 1, *2 hdc, hdc in next 3 st.* Repeat *to* around. Join. (55 hdc)
Row 8: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join. (55 hdc)
Row 9: Ch 1, *2 hdc, hdc in next 4 st.* Repeat *to* around. Join. (66 hdc)

Your circle should measure approx. 6” across the center.

Row 10: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join. (66 hdc)
Row 11: Ch 1, hdc in first 9 st, 2 hdc in next st. *hdc in next 6 st, 2 hdc in next st* Repeat *to* around. Join. (75 hdc)
Row 12-25: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join. (75 hdc)

For Basic Beanie Only:
Row 26: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (75 sc)
Fasten off & sew in ends.

For Folded Edge Hat Only:
Repeat row 25 until you have 33 rows total.
Row 34: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around. Join. (75 sc)
Fasten off and sew in ends.

For Slouchy Hat Only:
Repeat row 25 until you have 38 rows total, if you would like more slouch add a couple more rows if you wish!
Row 39-40: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (75 sc)
Fasten off and sew in ends.

  2. I have been trying to find youtube video for easy quick hat for my boys (teen young adult) an hubby same size heads pretty close size. Also needing a pattern or video easy simple ski mask any in your book please let me know I'll purchase if need be thank you for this pattern I'm in love an on hat 4
