Free Crochet Pattern: Pick-Up Truck Applique


I originally created this applique to be used on a crochet valance for my youngest sons bedroom. It's a very quick and easy pattern but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Skill Level: Easy

Finished Size: Approx. 5" x 4"
                        (For a slightly smaller applique try going down a hook size or 2)

Supplies:
Worsted Weight Yarn in black, white and choice for the truck body
Size H (5.0 mm) Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms):
Ch – Chain
Hdc – Half Double Crochet
Sc – Single Crochet


Tires
(make 2)

With white:
Row 1: Magic circle, ch 1, 7 sc in circle.
Join with sl st & fasten off.

With black:
Row 2: Join with sl st in any sc, ch 1, 2 hdc in same & in each around.
Join with sl st & fasten off leaving a long end for sewing onto truck.


Truck Body

Using color of choice:
Row 1: Ch 20, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2-5: Sc in same and in each across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 6: Sc in same & in 5 more, ch 12. Skip 3, sl st in next stitch to join to truck body, ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Now work 5 sc's into chain you just made, ch 1, turn.
Row 8: Sl st in same, sc in 3, leave last stitch unworked and sl st in next stitch to join to truck body, ch 1. Sc in same and in each across.
Row 9: Ch 1 and sl st down the back of the truck, ch 1 at next corner and sl st across, ch 1 at next corner, sl st across and fasten off.

Sew on tires and sew in ends.


Truck Body Tutorial

Row 9: Ch. 1 and sl st down the back of the truck, ch 1 at next corner and sl st across, ch 1 at next corner, sl st across and fasten off. Sew on tires and sew in ends.

My nephew (newly 3) is all about "tucks" if it has wheels, it's a "tuck" and don't try to do anything silly like tell him something's a car (even that sweet cherry red 1965-era Corvette convertible he found in the toybox!) I think I'll use this and modify it to other kinds of "tucks" before He outgrows them!
