Free Crochet Pattern: Favorite Slouchy

Hi crochet friends!

This pattern is a revised version of the Women's Textured & Ribbed Slouchy Beanie. The original pattern (which can be found here now: Women's Slouchy Textured Beanie) was popular but also one of my very first patterns that I wrote and some fellow crocheters expressed having a hard time with how it was written so I've tried to simplify the pattern and make the directions more clear. If you still need help check out the new video tutorial below!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Jenni

Abbreviations (US Terms)
BLO - Back Loop Only

Important Notes
-All joins are made with a ss.
-Ch 1's do NOT count as a stitch.
-When you come to the end of your row do not join to the chain 1, you should be joining to the first stitch in the row.
-When you see "Repeat *to* around." in the pattern it means to work the stitches listed between the *'s all the way around to the end of the row.
-Gauge is very important for this pattern. Please work the gauge swatch below before making the hat.

Pattern for Gauge
Using size J (6.0 mm) hook and the worsted weight yarn you have chosen for the hat:

Row 1: Ch 15, dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (14 dc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Dc in each st across. (14 dc)
Repeat row 2 until you have 8 rows total.
Fasten off.

Lay your piece flat and measure.
The swatch should measure 4" x 4".  If you do not get gauge you can try loosening or tightening your tension as you crochet or change your hook size to obtain gauge.

Fasten off and sew in ends.

Now you can either make your own yarn pom-pom or use a faux fur pom-pom (tutorial on how to make your own here: Faux Fur Pom-Pom Tutorial) and sew it to the top of the hat.

To make yarn pom-poms I use my hand and wrap the yarn around and around my hand (about 75-100 times depending on how full I want it). Lay out a long piece of yarn (12-18"). Carefully slip the yarn off of your hand and lay on top of the long piece of yarn, tie a knot twice. Using your tapestry needle; sew the long yarn ends in and out of the pom pom through the center a few times. Add a dab or two of fabric glue to the center of you would like (Elmer's school glue works well too). Let dry. Cut through all your loops and trim up your pom-pom so it's nice and even.
